THE 3 STATES IMAGINED IN THE 4th
Consciousness experiences
through 3 states imagined within the 4th
For centuries mystics of
the East have referred to the 4 states as:
1.
Jagrat (the waking state) within which the world is seen while awake
2. Susupati (the dreamless sleep state) where
nothing is seen during sleep
3. Svapam (the dream state) within which a world is seen during
sleep
4. Turiya (witness consciousness) within which the other 3 are imagined,
and which alone exists
Consciousness
remains as the underlying reality in all
states (within which everything is imagined).
In the dream state we perceive
a world that seems as real as the one perceived in the waking state.
Experiences in the dream
state (svapam) are perceived as real as experiences in the waking state
(jagrat).
Objects
perceived in dreams are perceived as real and solid as the
objects perceived in the waking state.
As dream hunger is satiated
by dream food, hunger in the waking state is satiated by food in the waking
state.
And
if a person in a dream tells us “This is not real, you are only dreaming within your Self”, we will
never believe them.
Because
the world perceived in the dream state seems as real as the world perceived in
the waking state.
The world in the dream
state seems to be physically solid and to exist outside (within
space).
But upon waking each morning,
if you ask two key questions:
1. Where did the world in my dream really exist?
2. And of what material substance was it created?
You realize that world
never existed anywhere in space, and was only imagined in your consciousness.
You realize that world
was never created out of any material substance, it was simply imagined
in consciousness.
The realism of dreams proves consciousness can imagine
a world inside, that appears to exist (within space) outside.
The
3 states are imagined within consciousness, the only difference between
dream and waking state is ‘length of story.’
In the waking state a ‘life story’ appears to last for years,
with a sense of continuation.
In the dream state a ‘life story’ appears to last a few hours, with no continuation
upon waking.
Yet the
world in
the dream state (svapam) feels as familiar as the world in
the waking state (jagrat).
In
the dream state the dream world is all we believe in, we do not think
of any other world or reality (until we wake up).
Ultimately
a dream is recognized as a dream only when one wakes up (to the truth)
And inquiry into the realism
of objects within our dreams leads us to realize the secret of creation
(as being a dream).
In
reality turiya (consciousness) alone exists, so to dream consciously
(with eyes wide
open) remain aware:
The
3 states of waking, dreamless sleep and dream are only imagined
within the 4th
Hence everything is a dream within consciousness
(the 4th state which alone exists)
