IDENTITY
SHIFT: FROM THE UNREAL TO THE REAL
The
root cause of all the mischief in life is simply misidentification: thinking
of one’s Self as a body and mind.
The antidote is simply a shift to one's real identity: as bodiless consciousness
(being immaterial and non-spatial).
The root cause
of all ignorance is forgetting one’s Self (separation
consciousness).
The root cause of all wisdom is remembering one’s
Self (unity consciousness).
Ignorance
and wisdom are directly proportional to forgetfulness of one’s
Self.
Consciousness alone exists,
and being indivisible cannot have any separation (duality).
Hence there can never
be an ‘individual doer’ of anything, since individuality can
only exist within separation (duality).
One who realizes
the truth of non-duality cannot intentionally hurt ‘another' (being
aware there are no ‘others’).
Hence consciousness
alone determines one’s degree of forgetfulness, since
it alone exists (and hence is the Self of all).
So no one can ever be
responsible for their ignorance (forgetfulness), or be credited for their
wisdom (remembrance).
The absence of a ‘responsible
doer’ is very difficult to accept by those who believe their perception
of duality (separation).
But in absolute truth: There
is no duality (division), consciousness alone is and does
everything.
All conduct
is simply a side effect of one’s awareness, so a great soul is never
great, but simply in less forgetfulness.
Forgetfulness (of the
Self) enables (experiences imagined by the Self) to seem more real, and
hence more stimulating.
Hence mystics often sum
up life (existence) by stating: “For the sake of play, there
is this forgetfulness.”
And since forgetting (and
remembering) is the eternally circular play of the Self: life (or existence)
is not a linear journey.
You forget your Self, to
remember your Self, to forget your Self, etc: all for the sake of play (imagined
experiences).
And this play goes on forever:
since it is the nature of consciousness (the Self) to imagine experiences.
Hence the best you can
ever do is to be true to your present level of awareness (to the best of
your ability).
Misidentifying
as body and mind, one perceives separation, individuals (and enters into
judgments).
Identifying as consciousness, one realizes consciousness alone (and that
there is ‘no one’ to judge).
Misidentifying
as body and mind, one perceives creation (material transformation
and movement in space).
Identifying as consciousness, one realizes only appearances (imagined
by the real Self which never moves).
Misidentifying
as body and mind, one perceives one’s self as a material and spatial
being.
Identifying as consciousness, one realizes one’s Self (spirit) as an
immaterial and non-spatial being.
Misidentifying
as body and mind, one experiences disharmony, imbalance and bondage.
Identifying as consciousness, one realizes peace, balance and freedom (as
one’s true nature).
So to live in the peace, balance and freedom of the absolute truth, simply:
Shift
your identity from body and mind to consciousness (spirit)
